The Governor welcomes questions on topics not covered during his speech in the Q&A session.

    Lesetja Kganyago joined the South African Reserve Bank as Deputy Governor in 2011, and was appointed Governor in 2014, which he was reappointed to by the President in 2019.
    Lesetja has more than 20 years of experience in formulating and implementing public policy, having spent this time in both the central bank and National Treasury. He has wide-ranging experience in Macroeconomic Policy, Financial Sector Policy, Public Finance, International Finance, Public Debt Management, and Financial Markets.
    Over the years, he has been responsible for a wide range of areas, including research, financial stability and regulatory reform, incl. introducing the Twin Peaks regulatory structure. He was instrumental in leading several fundamental reforms in the financial markets.
    He has led SA’s technical team to various G20 Ministers of Finance and Central Bank Governors meetings and chaired amongst others the G20 Working Group on IMF Governance Reform.
    He was appointed as Chairman to the International Monetary and Financial Committee for a 3-year period. He also chaired a number of Financial Stability Board working groups and currently chairs the Committee of Central Bank Governors of the Southern African Development Community and the Financial Stability Board’s Central Bank Governance Group.
    Mr. Kganyago holds a Master of Science degree in Development Economics from London University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Economics from the UNISA.
