Throughout his political life, Herman Mashaba sought to promote and foster an open, democratic society based on the rule of law, personal liberty, and economic freedom. During his Mayoralty he was praised for his hands-on approach to service delivery, innovative partnerships with the private sector, and zero-tolerance for corruption and maladministration.


Today he heads up his own political party ActionSA.


"Change starts in 2024: The road to a prosperous and inclusive South Africa" - Mr. Mashaba's speech will reflect on the key socio-economic challenges facing SA and how he believes these can be addressed.

    Herman Mashaba grew up on the outskirts of Pretoria during the dark days of apartheid. He started his professional life as an entrepreneur, and over decades built a business empire that included companies in the cosmetics, construction, real estate, retail, energy and financial services fields. Mashaba was elected as the Mayor of Johannesburg by a 7-way coalition in 2016. He served for three years, receiving acclaim for his hands-on approach to service delivery and zero-tolerance for corruption. In October 2019 Mashaba resigned from the Mayoralty and launched The People’s Dialogue. This platform sought to engage South Africans about the solutions required to fix their country. Inspired by the submissions, in August 2020 Mashaba launched ActionSA – a new, solutions-oriented political party aimed at building a non-racial, prosperous and safe South Africa for all its residents.
