Event Details

The National Health Insurance (NHI) is a health financing system that aims to provide access to quality and affordable personal health services for all South Africans based on their health needs, regardless of their socio-economic status. It is designed to ensure that the use of health services does not result in financial hardship for individuals and their families.

Many agree that a national health system as part of a more just, equitable, prosperous and healthy society is important and necessary, and that major improvements to access health care are desperately needed. However, more clarity is required by the broader community, particularly in the private sector, where there are many unanswered questions and concerns, including the financing of the system and its consequences for the South African economy.

SwissCham South Africa, in close collaboration with the Innovative Pharmaceutical Association of South Africa (IPASA), Switzerland Global Enterprise and Swiss Business Hub Southern Africa, invites you to join our dinner event on this burning topic with a key-note address by Dr. Nicholas Crisp, who is considered the chief driver of universal healthcare in South Africa. He will provide some insights into how a national healthcare insurance is envisaged in the South African context and outline the NHI's immediate priorities in preparation for its implementation.

After Dr. Crisp's address, a moderated Q&A session will take place.

We invite you join this constructive conversation to gain more clarity on the role of the private sector can play for a seamless transition towards NHI.
